# Account Management

Manage your AWeber account settings, billing information, and user access from this section. Below are the key areas and common tasks you'll find in account management.

*** ** * ** ***

## Key Account Management Areas

**Account Information**: Your profile includes your name, email address, business name, and contact details. Keeping this information current ensures you receive important account notifications and can access support when needed.

**Billing and Payments**: Manage your subscription plan, payment methods, view invoices, and adjust billing as your subscriber count changes. Your billing settings control which plan you're on and how payments are processed.

**User Management**: If you work with a team or agency, you can add users with specific permission levels. User management lets you control who can access your account and what they're allowed to do, from viewing reports to sending campaigns.

**Account Security**: Password management and security settings protect your account from unauthorized access and ensure your subscriber data remains secure.

## Reactivating a Closed Account

### 30 Day Reactivation Window

Closed accounts can be reactivated within 30 days of the account closure date. After this 30 day period, all account information is permanently deleted and cannot be restored. If your account has been closed for more than 30 days, you'll need to create a new account.

### How to Reactivate Your Account

To reactivate a closed account within the 30-day window:

1. [Contact Customer Solutions](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm) - Our Customer Solutions team will process the reactivation for you.

2. Provide Required Information - You'll need to supply:

   * The email address used to log into the account

   * A recent invoice number from your account

3. Alternative Verification - If you don't have a recent invoice number available, our Customer Solutions team can provide you with a security verification code to verify your identity.

**Note** - Any outstanding or overdue balances on the account must be paid to bring your account's billing status current before reactivation can be completed.

# Adding a Profile Photo to Your Emails

Some email clients display a small profile photo or avatar next to the sender's name in the inbox. Even though you're sending emails through AWeber, the image actually comes from the mailbox provider that's hosting your email address.

**Important:** Whether or not your photo appears depends on the recipient's email client. Inbox providers control what they display, and your image is not guaranteed to show for all recipients.

*** ** * ** ***

## Option 1: Update Your Mailbox Provider Settings

If your email address is hosted by a web host (such as [Namecheap](https://www.dpbolvw.net/click-100579450-12892698) or another provider), you can update your profile photo directly in your hosting account's email settings. Look for a profile or personal details section under the Email area of your hosting control panel.

*** ** * ** ***

## Option 2: Update Your Gmail or Google-Hosted Address

If you're using a Gmail address or a Google-hosted domain address, you can add or change your profile photo directly in Gmail:

1. Open [Gmail](https://mail.google.com/) and click your profile icon in the top-right corner.

2. Select **Manage your Google Account**.

3. Click on your profile photo to upload a new image. You can use a photo of yourself or your brand's logo.

*** ** * ** ***

## Option 3: Use Gravatar

**Gravatar** (Globally Recognized Avatar) is a free service that links a profile photo to an email address. It's useful if you want the same profile image to appear across multiple platforms, not just emails.

1. Visit [gravatar.com](https://gravatar.com/) and create a free account.

2. Sign up using the same email address you use as your sending address in AWeber.

3. Upload a square profile photo. A size of 300x300 pixels or smaller is recommended.

4. To verify it's active, go to <https://en.gravatar.com/site/check/> and enter your sending email address.

*** ** * ** ***

## Confirm Your Sending Address in AWeber

Whichever option you use, make sure the email address you set the profile photo for matches your sending address in AWeber:

1. Log in to your AWeber account.

2. Click the [List Settings](https://www.aweber.com/users/list/settings/basic) tab for the list you send from.

3. Confirm that the "From Email" address matches the email you updated.

*** ** * ** ***

## Things to Keep in Mind

* Profile image display is controlled by the recipient's inbox provider, not by AWeber or by you.

* Not all email clients support profile images. Results will vary by recipient.

* Gmail may tie avatar display to sender reputation and other factors.

* There is no way to guarantee your photo will appear for all recipients.

*** ** * ** ***

## Looking for a More Reliable Solution?

Consider setting up [**BIMI**](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/using-bimi-with-your-email-messages) (Brand Indicators for Message Identification). BIMI works alongside SPF, DKIM, and DMARC to display your brand logo in supported inboxes and can also improve your email deliverability.

# Can I block an IP address, region, or country from my list?

[You can specify email addresses and domains that you wish to block](https://docs.aweber.com/subscriber-management/subscribers/how-do-i-block-a-subscriber.md) from signing up to your list, but we do not offer an option to specify IP addresses that you wish to block from subscribing an address to your list. The same goes for blocking certain countries or regions.

If a sign up form for your list is filled out numerous times from a given IP, the AWeber system will prevent that IP from submitting the web form any longer.

If you are having issues with malicious activity on your website coming from a particular IP address, region, or country, contact your webhost to see about blocking the IP/s from your site entirely.

Your account will switch to the new billing plan on your next invoice date. If you need any help, [contact our Customer Solutions Team](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm).

## How do I keep my existing plan, but downgrade my subscriber tier?

If you are currently on AWeber Plus or AWeber Lite, you may want to downgrade your subscriber tier depending on your business needs.

If you'd like to downgrade your AWeber subscriber tier to better match your current list size, our [Customer Solutions team](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm) is here to help. Downgrades are not automated and must be handled manually to ensure your account and billing details are updated correctly. When reaching out, be sure to include your account login email, verify a recent invoice number from your account, and let us know you'd like to downgrade your subscriber tier to the new desired tier.

## **Important Timing Considerations for Subscriber Tier Downgrades**

When downgrading your subscriber/message tier, please be aware of the following timing restrictions:

### Email Usage Allowances and Downgrade Eligibility

Your downgrade may be restricted if your current or historical email usage exceeds your target tier's email send allowance. [Each subscriber tier includes a maximum number of emails you can send per billing cycle](https://www.aweber.com/pricing.htm).

Downgrading to a lower pricing tier can only be done if your sending habits reflect the tier you're planning to switch to and if you plan to maintain both the subscriber count and sending volume allowances of that tier for the entire billing cycle.

If your subscriber count or sending needs fluctuate significantly, you will need to stay on a plan that accommodates your peak volume requirements to ensure uninterrupted service and avoid unexpected billing complications.

Stating that you plan to send less in the future is not sufficient for downgrade eligibility; eligibility is determined by your account's demonstrated usage history. If it is determined that your usage patterns are not suitable for a lower tier, your downgrade request will not be approved.

Previous downgrade approvals do not guarantee eligibility for future downgrade requests. Each request is evaluated independently based on your account's demonstrated usage history at the time of the request.

**Note:** Email sends do not roll over between billing cycles. Each billing cycle's send allotment resets regardless of usage in the previous cycle.

### When Downgrades Cannot Be Processed Immediately

If your recent sending history exceeds what your target tier allows, your downgrade cannot be processed until your usage history reflects a pattern consistent with the lower tier's send allowance. Simply waiting for the current billing cycle to reset is not sufficient; eligibility is based on demonstrated sending behavior across recent billing cycles, not just current usage.

*Example:* If you're currently on the 100,001-150,000 subscriber tier (1,800,000 emails/month) and want to downgrade to the 75,001-100,000 tier (1,200,000 emails/month), but your recent billing cycles show sending volumes above 1,200,000 emails/month, your downgrade will not be approved until your historical usage consistently falls within the lower tier's allowance.

*Note:* The start of a new billing cycle does not reset your eligibility. Eligibility is based on your historical sending volume across recent billing cycles, not just the current one.

### Before Requesting a Downgrade

To ensure a smooth downgrade process:

1. Check your current email usage in your [account's billing section](https://www.aweber.com/users/contact/billing)

2. Compare your usage to the email limits of your target tier

3. If you've exceeded the target tier's sending allowance, you will need to demonstrate consistent sending within that tier's limits before a downgrade can be approved.

4. Ensure your subscriber count qualifies you for the lower tier

## What are the different features available between AWeber Plus, AWeber Lite, and AWeber Free?

# Can I merge/combine my lists?

AWeber provides the option to export subscribers from a list and import them into another list without the need for the subscribers to confirm again. Additionally, there is also the option to include or exclude lists when sending a broadcast.

## Exporting subscribers / Importing subscribers

If you wanted to move subscribers from one list to another, you can accomplish this by using AWeber's export function listed under on Subscribers management page. **Be sure to first select your Currently Subscribed segment from the left-hand Filters options** . Once the filter is applied, at the end of your subscribers table, you will use the "Export CSV" button to [export your subscribers](https://docs.aweber.com/subscriber-management/subscribers/how-do-i-export-my-subscribers.md).

![204028166_step01.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_b792d04d2ea26596f9bd6ce4556c702e73f828ef5be4d1947a1887f8e776c000/204028166_step01.png?cb=16c6062ca9ed8fc5d66209218a2df1b0)

Once you export the subscribers to a .csv file, simply [import the subscribers](https://docs.aweber.com/subscriber-management/subscribers/how-do-i-import-subscribers-without-confirmation.md) into your desired list.

![204028166_step02.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_a445941a9930e3ff47e0d14317839ef30ecf8d28f2a71c64e2e6d66fcdef6e2a/204028166_step02.png?cb=82c14b634ec66cfe2bc27a36834c28be)

**Note:** Each email address can only be added to each list one time. If there are subscribers in your import that are also in the list you're importing into, those subscribers will not be added a second time.

If you still wish to update their information, such as applying custom fields or tags to the subscribers, you can choose the option to [add new and update existing subscribers](https://docs.aweber.com/subscriber-management/subscribers/how-do-i-update-subscriber-information-through-an-).

## Including lists when sending a Broadcast

When composing a message from one list, you have the option to [include additional lists](https://docs.aweber.com/message-editors/messages/how-do-i-send-a-broadcast-message-to-multiple-list.md) in the scheduling. When including other lists, if a subscriber is subscribed to more than one of the included lists they will only receive one copy of the Broadcast.

To include other lists when you schedule your Broadcast, update the "Who should receive this message?" section from within you "Broadcast Settings". From here, check the "Include" box next to the list(s) you'd like to include. To include all lists, check the top "Include" box. Once complete, click the "Apply" button.

![204028166_step03.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_97a6523d24b4e4ca4661b3249cc5f415a2f15c083e0ecb0ecac0450da2e26a59/204028166_step03.png?cb=e1175ea49e81c095a6d2df2a3f2d107e)

## Sharing Workflows between lists

You can easily move your workflow from one list to another by going to the "Workflows," clicking the options button, then "Copy to List." **Please note:** when you copy the workflow, it will be in the draft state in the new list. You will have to before subscribers on that list receive it.

![Screen Shot 2022-11-22 at 6-04-08 PM.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_df3f56973439ecb9695a5f898cee6f57c50dc87bdf1301fafbbc8c8fb9de21ab/Screen%20Shot%202022-11-22%20at%206-04-08%20PM.png?cb=bfa4418e93fb2cd430925818635ee3b1)

## Sharing Landing Pages Between Lists

You can also move your [landing pages](https://docs.aweber.com/landing-pages/landing-pages-sign-up-forms/how-do-i-create-a-landing-page.md). In order to do this, go to "Pages \& Forms" then click the "Landing Pages" tab. From here you would want to click the more options icon.

![Screen Shot 2022-07-26 at 9-41-03 AM.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_a849356071a0be71f64e234dc61a730e5129b0a76ba018d64cd5e59c0720223f/Screen%20Shot%202022-07-26%20at%209-41-03%20AM.png?cb=3c2e7163e86bbef7f00e97670c93408f)

Then, click "Copy to List," where you can then select the list to copy your landing page to. Please note: when you copy the landing page, it will be unpublished in the new list. You will have to publish it in order for it to be active. When you publish the page, it will have a different URL associated with it in the new list.

![Screen Shot 2022-07-26 at 10-08-39 AM.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_682ebddad2b52fd29772ad33d9426a0bf02a932a9ac8745bb9b24706522952f8/Screen%20Shot%202022-07-26%20at%2010-08-39%20AM.png?cb=0f2ac08d2feee68af278039c2045399f)

And that's it! Congratulations, you have successfully merged your subscribers, messages, and landing pages. Now, you can work from one list and utilize to further target your subscribers.

# Can I pay for my AWeber account via PayPal?

At this time, we do not directly accept payments by PayPal or other similar systems for AWeber accounts. This is due to terms of service limitations at those services.

We do accept payment via Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover credit cards, debit cards with the Visa or Mastercard logo.

Items such as prepaid cards are typically not accepted as their terms generally do not allow for automatic recurring purchases to be made, so it's best to utilize your Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover credit card/debit card.

# Can I put my account on hold?

Yes, we offer a Hold Package at a reduced rate of $4.99/month. If you're looking to pause your account, this is the option available to you. If there is a remaining balance due on your account leading up to your account going on the Hold Package, you would be responsible for paying that amount in addition to the Hold Package rate for the upcoming month. While your account is on the AWeber Hold Package, you should expect the following:

* We'll store all your account information, including subscribers, broadcasts, workflow automations, landing pages, and web push notifications.

* All workflow automations will be temporarily deactivated.

* Broadcast sending will be temporarily deactivated.

  * Attempting to send a broadcast message while on the Hold Package will result in a "Your message failed to send. Please try again." error message. If you intended to send messages again, you will need to [reach out to Customer Solutions](mailto:help@aweber.com) requesting your account be reactivated. In your message, be sure to provide your login email address, invoice number from your account, and the desired plan you wish to be reactivated to.

* New subscribers will not be collected.

* You can reactivate the account at any time by [reaching out to the Customer Solutions Team](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm).

If you wish to switch to the hold package, please reach out to our [Customer Solutions Team](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm) to assist with this change.

## Can I place my account on hold multiple times each year?

No. The Hold Package is intended to serve as a temporary hold for your account to return to once you are ready to start your marketing initiatives again. Maintaining a healthy mailing list by engaging your subscribers based on the expectations set for them is critical to your email marketing success. Taking extended time away from delivering your subscribers the content they're expecting to receive can cause deliverability issues such as undeliverables, high bounces, and spam complaints.

*** ** * ** ***

## How long can I keep my account on hold?

There is no time limit on how long you can keep your account on hold. However, the longer your account remains on hold, the greater the risk that your subscriber list becomes outdated.

If your subscribers have not heard from you in over 6 months, email addresses may have become invalid, and contacts may no longer remember signing up for your list. Sending to these subscribers after a long absence can result in high bounce rates and spam complaints, which can negatively impact your sending reputation and deliverability.

The hold package is a great option for short breaks from email marketing. If you plan to be away for an extended period, you will need to take the following steps before reactivating your account:

* [Remove any subscribers](https://docs.aweber.com/subscriber-management/subscribers/how-do-i-delete-a-subscriber-from-my-list) who have not been contacted in over 12 months.

* Focus on growing a fresh list of engaged contacts going forward.

If you need help cleaning your list before reactivating, please [contact our Customer Solutions team](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm).

After reactivating your account, it's recommended to take steps to [re-engage your subscriber list](https://docs.aweber.com/subscriber-management/subscribers/how-can-i-re-engage-inactive-subscribers) if you have not sent to your subscribers in an extended period of time.

*** ** * ** ***

## If my account is already on the Hold Package, how can I reactivate it?

To reactivate your account, please [contact our Customer Solutions team](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm) who can make this change for you. Provide our Customer Solutions team with:

* The login email address for your account

* A recent invoice number from your account

* The plan you'd like to reactivate (for example, if you were previously on the Plus plan and would like to remain on the Plus plan, let our team know)

# Do I need to update my domain's SPF record? The answer is No.

*Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is a standard for authenticating email. It is used by senders to announce mail platforms or servers from which they send email.*

**An SPF record** **is not required or needed** for improving deliverability or guarding against spoofing, when sending from AWeber and many other email service providers (ESPs). Why? The SPF domain needs to align with the domain found in the *return-path* header which is normally a domain owned by the ESP.

Instead, email authentication with respect to AWeber and your domain, is fulfilled by the addition of . Read more about .

If you still want to add an SPF record for AWeber it will likely be ignored by mailbox providers and will not hurt your deliverability. The following is an example SPF (TXT) record including the aweber.com domain.
v=spf1 mx include:send.aweber.com \~all

Please keep in mind you should only publish one SPF (TXT) record. Use an additional *include*phrase for each domain you specify. If you're not sure how to edit your domain's SPF records, contact your web host or DNS provider.

# Does Deleting Subscribers Automatically Adjust My Bill?

No, billing does not adjust automatically. While deleting subscribers from your list reduces your total subscriber count, your billing tier will not automatically downgrade to reflect the change.

To ensure your billing matches your current subscriber level, you'll need to request a manual downgrade of your account.
**Note:** Unsubscribed contacts are not counted toward your billing subscriber total.

## How to Downgrade Your Subscriber Tier

## Browser translation tools causing errors

If you're experiencing frequent error messages when creating landing pages or making changes in your account, browser translation extensions may be the cause. AWeber currently supports English only, and translation tools can interfere with the platform's functionality.

**\*\*Common symptoms\*\*: Error screens when creating landing pages, frequent "something went wrong" messages, needing to refresh pages repeatedly, or having to repeat actions multiple times.**

**\*\*Solution\*\*: Disable any browser translation extensions or plugins (such as Google Translate, Microsoft Translator, or similar tools) while using AWeber. This should resolve the compatibility issues and allow normal functionality.**

In this article, we will review how to update the email addresses you receive invoices to.

## Need to change your AWeber login email address?

To use a new email address for login, you'll need to [add the new email address as a new user on your account](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-do-i-manage-users-in-my-account#Adding-a-User), and then [transfer account ownership to the new user](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-do-i-manage-users-in-my-account#Transferring-Account-Owner). Once ownership has been transferred, you can remove the old user.

# How can I keep my account safe and secure?

The best way to keep your account (and the data within it) secure is to make sure that you never provide your login information to anyone else. When someone has your login credentials, they gain complete control over your account and all your subscriber information.

A big part of keeping your login information secure is to keep a sharp eye out for phishing attempts or other [social engineering](https://us-cert.cisa.gov/ncas/tips/ST04-014) tactics--essentially, make sure that people and websites that you're entrusting with your information are who they say they are.

## What is phishing?

Phishing is a method used to commit identity theft by tricking users into giving away their login information, passwords, and other sensitive information.

This is generally done by sending an email or other message to a user claiming to be from a representative of a company, directing them to a site which looks like the company's site, then asks them to provide their login information. This information can then be used to access the user's account.

## How do I know I can trust an email from AWeber?

First, look at the from address on the email. Anyone from AWeber will have an email address that ends in "@aweber.com".

Even if an email looks like it is coming from "@aweber.com," make sure that the actual links in the message are taking you to aweber.com - not some other website. Take a look at the next section for more detail.

## When should I feel safe providing my login information?

The short answer is: when you're on AWeber's web site. So how can you be sure you're only providing information to us directly?

Make sure that the URL that your browser displays starts with:

https://www.aweber.com/

OR

https://auth.aweber.com/

OR

https://labs.aweber.com/

**Note:** https://auth.aweber.com is the URL you will be directed to when [authorizing an integration](https://docs.aweber.com/integrations/integrations/how-do-i-authorize-an-integration.md), like the AWeber for WordPress plugin. https://labs.aweber.com/ is typically used by developers who are coding integration through [AWeber's API](https://docs.aweber.com/api/api/does-aweber-have-an-api.md).

If it starts with anything else (again, check for misspellings!), it may be best to [contact us](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm).

Here are some examples of what those URLs will look like in different browsers:

### Chrome

![image-20251028-143717.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_57d9315103666293522afe773dd9b357644257ae743876b41043e14f034fa01e/image-20251028-143717.png?cb=6806a3ad2cbe47f7139ddcf1dbc3fab3)

### Firefox

![image-20251028-143721.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_21a5fabbfc37f9897c2f7780255ae6b3372d195b164c372b9027d9e897d33080/image-20251028-143721.png?cb=85ab6d454ab4ec70b158e801dbe7e5ab)

### Safari

![image-20251028-143725.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_41204cead23e916c27da8a4d97b3f9034eba65eb57d711c88d4d016a5b02d10a/image-20251028-143725.png?cb=220fe0a7cdf8b57941fc0c5ff08e12f7)

When in doubt, simply type "aweber.com" directly into your browser to ensure that you are visiting the correct site.

## What can I do if my login information has been compromised?

If you suspect that you have fallen victim to a phishing attempt, or that someone has gained access to your account via some other means, you should immediately take these steps:

1. **Change your password**

The first thing to do is change your password - the quicker the better. Log into your account at <https://www.aweber.com/login.htm>, then go to your [profile settings](https://www.aweber.com/users/profile/password) to .

2. **Check your account settings**

After changing your password, check to make sure that everything is still as you want it in your account. It's especially important to make sure your [contact information](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-do-i-change-my-contact-information.md) hasn't been changed.

3. **Contact us**

Finally, [contact us](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm) - let us know what happened and when, so we can take steps to prevent abuse of your account as well as any others that might have been targeted.

# How do I add and verify a From address in List Settings?

Your From address is the email address that will show as the sender when subscribers receive your messages, like in the image below.

![360043593813_step01.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_d45188de1a829d008a7a223b0999735d3c251e0ab5e94f7ad755f3b6df81c271/360043593813_step01.png?cb=20d3b236164840d7992783dfedbe00e8)

The From address is one of the first things that subscribers will see when they receive your messages, so we recommend using your own custom domain and something that your subscribers recognize, like yourname@yourdomain.com. You would need to avoid using a free email address from a provider like [Gmail.com](http://gmail.com/), [Yahoo.com](http://yahoo.com/), [Aol.com](https://aol.com/), or [Hotmail.com](https://hotmail.com/). This will also be where you receive replies from your subscribers, so you want to make sure it is a valid email address that you have access to.

The From address is an important part of your deliverability. When you use a custom domain, you can add to your DNS settings, which help authenticate that AWeber is allowed to send on your behalf.

In order to update your DKIM records for your domain, you will first have to verify whatever email address you're planning on using. In this article, we will walk through the steps to verify your From address.

**Please Note:** Upon verifying your email you will have no limitations when sending test messages to that verified email.

Each list can have only one "From" address active at a time. To send from multiple "From" addresses, create a separate list for each address. [Upgrade](https://www.aweber.com/users/upgrade?from=KB) to Plus in order to create multiple lists.

## Step By Step Instructions

1. First, hover over the "List Options" tab and click "[List Settings](https://www.aweber.com/users/settings)." You will see your From name and email address in your "Basic Settings."

   ![From_Name_and_Address.jpg](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_4f29eb1a2fe4345a5d028f98cfa0bd0f163f5d81245ad372cee1d41dce08f848/From_Name_and_Address.jpg?cb=5c342f3fa2998c372f4b0d0f0628cec2)

2. To add a new email address, select "Add New Email Address" in the From Address dropdown.

   ![Add_New_Email_Address.jpg](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_745421c154f022017c8522b76b33f02661e865d3e4aba435b413b016cdf2f90c/Add_New_Email_Address.jpg?cb=a3ce036250f1ce81edaa83d9412d9e52)

3. A slide-in panel will display allowing you to enter your email address. Once the email address is entered, click "Send Verification" to send a verification email to this email address.

   ![Send_Verification.jpg](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_b61d6af808da3fbef585b648f9078e9e23cda3e91bedcd9e4f79b116a6e5304a/Send_Verification.jpg?cb=1152d8f545d355fddda043afeadbe4d4)

4. You will receive a message from [help@aweber.com](mailto:help@aweber.com) with a link to verify. Click the "Verify email address" button in this message.

   ![360043593813_step06.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_bb3f83126412e7aaa290f9adf045215954144fada2e9ec131dba7bbc19db600a/360043593813_step06.png?cb=c4cc6fadca0f5b302235d433b0dfb7e7)

5. After the email address is entered, return to your [list settings](https://www.aweber.com/users/list/settings/basic) and select the newly added email address as the from address for your list.

And that's it! Your from address should be verified. You can check the status of the verification from your account settings. If you need to add a different From address, then you can do so from your "List Settings."

**Note**: Verification can only be completed by clicking the verify email address button from the email sent to you.

## Checking the Status of Your From Address

After you click on the verification link, you can check the status of your domain to make sure your account was successfully updated.

1. Hover over your login email in your control panel and click [My Account.](https://www.aweber.com/users/contact/edit) Then, click the [Domains and Addresses tab](https://www.aweber.com/users/contact/domains_addresses) from the options on the left-hand side of the page.

2. If you have been sent the verification email, but haven't yet clicked the link, then you will see a yellow "Pending" symbol.

   ![Pending.jpg](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_ec7e88dccdf971df7c5d08a67f9289365c44b3221cb5b6cfcac9ac0b7c38b8eb/Pending.jpg?cb=cbd615436e061f51fb615946f892cd67)

If the From address has been verified, you will see a green "Verified" symbol.

   ![Verified.jpg](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_ba2e12da3151a9b82cc8d959c7131fbc9ffdfa7c70a1307d548e6287a7e4bc09/Verified.jpg?cb=c9c45debba4e70f519d06270db61aba8)

You can resend the verification email by mousing over the email address and clicking the "Resend Verification" icon on the right.

   ![Resend_Verification.jpg](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_d3f06283ac4121d003ee2f944794443247145e54c5ece07d80e157ca273866bb/Resend_Verification.jpg?cb=c0d5f862f29fa17d2c37050a208add50)

You're all set! After you've added and verified your from address, you can [set up DKIM and DMARC authentication for the email address](https://docs.aweber.com/getting-started-with-aweber/configure-your-sending-email-address/authenticate-your-email-domain-with-dkim-and-dmarc.md).

### Having trouble receiving the verification email?

When verifying a new email address, the verification email is sent to that address' unique inbox. You will need to log into your new domain email address' inbox and find the message in order to authorize it with AWeber.

If you are unsure where to log into your new email address, you will want to reach out to your domain provider - the one you purchased the email address from. Domain providers like [Namecheap](https://www.dpbolvw.net/click-100579450-12892698) or Cloudflare, for example will setup a inbox for your domain email with its own login. You can access it and then find the verification message.

If needed, you also can resend the verification email by clicking "Resend Verification" as outlined above.

# How do I archive tags?

are keywords or phrases that you can use to group your subscribers together or send them specific messages, either by creating a segment and sending a broadcast or using a tag to start your workflow.

You can view all tags in your list from the "[Tags](https://www.aweber.com/users/tags)" page. There may be tags that are no longer in use or created in error. On the "Tags" page, you can archive these tags so that they don't display on the Tags management page or auto-complete when you're searching. The auto-complete feature appears when you are searching for a tag on your "[Subscribers](https://www.aweber.com/users/subscribers)" page, adding a tag to a subscriber's profile, or adding a tag to the start of your workflow.

**Please note:** archiving a tag will only remove it from the main "Tags" page and the auto-complete function, it will not [remove the tag](https://docs.aweber.com/subscriber-management/subscribers/how-do-i-add-or-remove-tags-in-bulk.md) from your subscribers, affect your automations, or delete the tag in any other way--it just becomes hidden from view.

## Step By Step Instructions

1. Go to the "[Tags](https://www.aweber.com/users/tags)" page, hover over the row the tag you want to archive is in and click "Archive" to the right of the tag you want to archive.

1. First, go to the "[Manage Lists](https://www.aweber.com/users/autoresponder/manage)" section of your account. Then, click the "Export Active Lists" button.

# How do I cancel my account online?

## Before You Do!

We'd hate to see you leave! Were you having trouble setting up your account?

Did you know that all you need to do to start seeing results is publish a sign-up form on your website and add a few messages to your list?

[**Hold Package ($4.99/month)**](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/can-i-put-my-account-on-hold)

We offer a Hold Package at $4.99/month. Any outstanding balance must be paid before the hold begins. While your account is on hold:

* All account data is stored (subscribers, broadcasts, automations, landing pages, and web push notifications)

* Workflow automations and broadcast sending are temporarily deactivated

* New subscribers cannot be collected

* You can reactivate anytime by contacting Customer Solutions with your login email, invoice number, and desired plan

**Have you contacted our Solutions Team?** We have real, live people ready to help you set up. We take a personal approach with our customers and would be glad to assist you with any questions or issues you're facing. [Get in touch](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm); we'd love to help.

We also offer a variety of video guides on [our YouTube Channel](https://www.youtube.com/user/emailmarketing), including a walk-through on how to get started, hosted by our experienced Education Team.

## Still Want to Cancel?

We'd greatly appreciate your feedback on why you decided to cancel, as it helps us improve our service. The online cancellation process includes spots for your specific feedback, which we use to drive changes and enhancements.

## Step By Step Instructions

1. Log in to your AWeber account.

2. Navigate to the [billing page](https://www.aweber.com/users/contact/billing).

3. In the *Current Plan* section, select *Close My Account*.

4. Follow the prompts on the screen to close out your account or start a live chat with us to request a cancellation.

![204028146_step_04.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_e174175d9a9725622177aeb947c7ae3f90f0617c711965b65384e8a66696f483/204028146_step_04.png?cb=a84899f97c63e39883fefc8ffcdf09b8)

If you created your AWeber account using a social login option (like Google), you may not have set a traditional password. To resolve this:

* Go to the [AWeber login page](https://www.aweber.com/landing.htm)

* Click **"Forgot Password"**

* Enter your AWeber account email address

* Check your email and follow the link to create a new password

* Return to the cancellation prompt to authorize your new password

**Important:** Creating a password doesn't remove your social login access. You'll be able to log in to AWeber using either:

* Your social login

* Your email and the new password you just created

We certainly welcome your business again in the future, and would be happy to answer any questions about how you might best use our service for the meantime.

## **Important Note About Overdue Balances**

If you currently have an overdue balance on your account, you'll need to settle the outstanding payment before you can access the option to make changes to your current plan.

**To resolve an overdue balance:**

1. Navigate to your [Billing](https://www.aweber.com/users/contact/edit#accountBillingContent) section by clicking on your user profile in the bottom-left corner of your control panel and selecting My Account

2. From the left-hand side menu, click [Billing](https://www.aweber.com/users/contact/edit#accountBillingContent)

3. Review any outstanding balance displayed on your billing page

4. Update your payment method or make a payment to bring your account current

5. Once the payment is processed, the option to "Close My Account" or "Change Plan" will become available in the Current Plan section

Once your balance is current, you'll be able to proceed with canceling your account or making any other plan changes as needed.

## Confirming that an Account is Cancelled

After cancellation, your account will remain active through the end of the current billing cycle. To verify that the cancellation was processed successfully, navigate to the [Billing page](https://www.aweber.com/users/contact/billing) within your account. You will notice two changes:

* Your upcoming bill will reflect $0.00. This indicates that your plan will not renew. Instead, your account will close at the end of the current billing cycle.

* The options to change plans or close the account will be replaced by a prompt to [contact Customer Solutions](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm) if you wish to reopen your account.

![Cancelled_Account.jpg](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_719f5643781a56fe1cad19d12fdaeffae0fee4540356026e268b179eace541ef/Cancelled_Account.jpg?cb=1e278188cd2c11aa45b8e7aa91380e42)

## Need to reactivate your closed or paused account?

Within 30 days of closing, we can reactivate your account. If your account was placed on our hold package, we can reactivate that too. Please contact our [Customer Solutions team](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm) to further discuss your account.

After canceling your AWeber account, your account data (including subscribers, broadcasts, automations, landing pages, and web push notifications) will be permanently removed within 30 days of closing if you do not choose to switch to a Hold package. After 30 days, the account cannot be reopened and this information will be permanently unavailable.

## Security Verification for Account Cancellation

Before AWeber can proceed with the cancellation of your account, you will be required to provide security verification. This could include verifying your login email address and an invoice number or security questions set for your account. This information is required for security purposes. This step ensures that only authorized users can make significant changes to the account.

## Need to cancel an AWeber free account?

Free AWeber accounts are not billed, so there's no risk of being charged if you keep your account open. If you'd still like to cancel, please reach out to our [Customer Solutions team](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm). You'll be asked to verify your account before we process the cancellation.

# How do I change my contact information?

In this article, we will walk through how to change your billing address and the address that appears in your messages.

*** ** * ** ***

## Need to change your AWeber login email address?

To use a new email address for login, you'll need to [add the new email address as a new user on your account](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-do-i-manage-users-in-my-account#Adding-a-User), and then [transfer account ownership to the new user](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-do-i-manage-users-in-my-account#Transferring-Account-Owner). Once ownership has been transferred, you can remove the old user.

*** ** * ** ***

## To change your billing address

1. Access the [My Account](https://www.aweber.com/users/contact/edit) section of your control panel. This is where you will be able to edit the contact information that we use to reach you about your account - this is not the information that your subscribers see.

2. As you scroll down the page, you can edit the postal address that we have on file for billing and other postal mail notifications regarding your account - make sure that you check this mailing address regularly.

   ![204028116_step2.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_3951cac46770427e97d19cba5f184f96cdffa00e195a9ebdef9c96198b3d5774/204028116_step2.png?cb=126221850fea1bc25ec94d906064f19b)

Hit "Save" at the bottom of the page to save any changes that you make.

3. From the left-hand side of the page, click Notifications.

   ![204028116_step03.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_50f31f3ef39e4ddff31adaa0b3427bd01ee06f210f80642418492ba2dddfc5f3/204028116_step03.png?cb=2119a337f86f80ae8415b1dff992f3c4)

Here, you can add or edit email addresses to be notified about your account. You can choose to have separate addresses for billing or other news about your account. Simply check the appropriate boxes, then click "Save."

*** ** * ** ***

## To change the address that appears in your messages

1. To edit information that your subscribers see in your messages, choose [List Settings](https://www.aweber.com/users/settings) under the List Options tab.

2. Here, you can edit the contact address that will appear when you send an email, as well as the postal address that is displayed at the bottom of your messages.

Click the "Use Different Address" option to update your list's contact address, but keep in mind that due to US federal law under the [CAN-SPAM Act](https://docs.aweber.com/email-marketing-best-practices/antispam/what-is-the-can-spam-act.md), this must be a valid postal address at which you can be reached.

   ![Screenshot 2025-11-12 at 11.34.34 AM-20251112-163942.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_4778725660d70026d730916ba8e874585758515935ea142b2a0880375109c2ad/Screenshot%202025-11-12%20at%2011.34.34%E2%80%AFAM-20251112-163942.png?cb=53e1ad86d533972a934b6de5c3267f2d)

After clicking the "Use Different Address" link, a form will appear where you can add the updated address or use a different address.

   ![image-20251112-164153.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_46b3e9871dbcccb3cb8804227da88e7bff3ebb2b081f7d6230a2c308d3973414/image-20251112-164153.png?cb=b290dbedbf1c1add927627c8855dabdd)

Enter the address you want to use, and then click "Save List Settings" in the lower right hand corner of the screen.

**Note:**If your address is not entered properly, you may receive an error stating that it is not a valid address. Make sure that the address you're entering has proper formatting and is a valid address where you can receive postal mail. If the address is entered properly and is not accepted, check your address online or reach out to your local post office to ensure that the address is formatted correctly.

Congratulations! Now you know how to change the contact information in your AWeber account.

### Can I remove the address?

No. Due to US federal law under the [CAN-SPAM Act](https://docs.aweber.com/email-marketing-best-practices/can-spam-act.md), the contact address must be present and also be a valid postal address at which you can be reached.

### Having trouble adding your address?

If your address is not accepted, you will receive a "Different Address Needed" error message.

You will want to ensure that the address you're adding is the address where you can receive postal mail.

Make sure the formatting of your mailing address is accurate as different formatting, abbreviations, etc. can invalidate an address. A good way to check would be to take your address and add it to a 3rd party maps website like [Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps).

If your formatting changes, try adding your address using the format provided from the [3rd party map website](https://www.google.com/maps).

# How do I change my list name?

All lists are initially assigned a default list name, which we recommend that you change to something more relevant to your business or campaign.

While subscribers won't see this list name in your messages, you will see it in your account, and should change it so that as you create new campaigns, you can easily tell them apart in your account.

## Step By Step Instructions

1. Click on "List Options" menu in the navigation bar and click [List Settings](https://www.aweber.com/users/settings).

2. The first textbox on this page contains your current list name. Change the name in the box.

Your list name can be up to 32 characters long and should reflect the campaign so you know specifically what the list is about.

   ![Screenshot 2026-02-06 at 3.30.35 PM.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_5e0cecb3c9a5f7674e0ed171e27804d503fe91956b6a892a0213c49b322d6930/Screenshot%202026-02-06%20at%203.30.35%E2%80%AFPM.png?cb=981a459315850a33ebde653b76386e95)

3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Save All Settings" to save your changes.

Congratulations! You have successfully changed the name of your list.

# How do I create a new list?

You can easily create a new list within your account. This enables you to set up separate campaigns for your different websites, or for different groups of people (prospects and customers, for example).

***Note:*** *You can only have one list on the AWeber Free plan.* [*Upgrade your account*](https://www.aweber.com/users/upgrade)*to unlock this feature and many more.*

*Further instructions:* [How do I upgrade my AWeber account from Free to Plus?](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-do-i-upgrade-my-aweber-account-from-free-to-pl.md)

## Step By Step Instructions

1. First, click "Lists" in the top-left of your AWeber dashboard. Then, click the "[Create New List](https://www.aweber.com/users/newlist)" on the bottom of the dropdown.

2. You will be taken to the "Tell Us About Your Business" page. First, enter the name of your company or program that you are marketing. Then, enter the website URL for the website that is associated with your company or program. If you don't have a website yet that is okay. You can always add one in the future.

   ![Updated Create List .png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_04b49f63a4e2698deba7867769b7da706e2a4bc85913a70f30983346917e3a58/Updated%20Create%20List%20.png?cb=61e390ed864301ae576b6c3e0d25ba12)

3. After you have entered your company details, you will then need to enter your "Contact Address." Choose an existing address or select "Use different address" to assign a postal address that you can be reached at by subscribers if needed. This address will automatically appear at the bottom of any messages that you send out. A valid postal address is [required by the CAN-SPAM Act](https://docs.aweber.com/email-marketing-best-practices/antispam/what-is-the-can-spam-act.md). Now that all the required information is added, click "Next" to continue.

4. You will now describe what your email list is about. Enter a "List Name" and "List Description" for your list. Next you will enter your "From Name" and select a "From Address." This is the name and email address that your messages will appear to come from when subscribers receive your messages. Once you are done filling this information out, click the "Next" to continue.

   ![Create a list 2.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_784e4b3c63b4439dafffde1e076c282b9732a451245f8b5fba6113399dca931c/Create%20a%20list%202.png?cb=1d01ef284570b973ff1a3e20db1efd7d)

5. On the last page you will set up the confirmation message that is sent to subscribers when they are added to your mailing list. This email is sent to subscribers in order to gain their permission and to show that they want to receive information from you. Even [if you do not plan on using a confirmation message](https://docs.aweber.com/subscriber-management/subscribers/can-i-disable-confirmed-opt-in.md), you will still need to set it up. First, you can specify what language you want to use for this confirmation message.

   ![Create a list 3.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_d5b4fd5fc60b2446efd929d1ec8ec97a4dfd992c5110ad2071380d5e54ba3284/Create%20a%20list%203.png?cb=871e3913d9478b5bdf6e8cdad8837196)

Then, you will need to setup the subject line for the confirmation message. If you choose to use one of our approved subject lines you will be given a drop down menu with those pre-approved options.

6. If you do not wish to use one of our pre-approved subject lines, you can always type in your own subject line. Just click the "Request a custom subject line" link.

7. If you choose to type in your own subject line, please allow up to 1 business day for that subject line to be approved. In general, a custom subject line must tell subscribers who you are, explain why they are receiving the confirmation message, and explain what they need to do with the message.

8. You can also choose to [personalize the subject line with information captured from the subscriber](https://docs.aweber.com/message-editors/dynamic-content/personalization.md) by using the Personalize drop down menu. So for example we have chosen to personalize our subject line with the subscribers first name.

   ![Custom subject line.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_5f1fdea2cef570dad36034a1255af0d75db247117d8166533c19de85b90e0073/Custom%20subject%20line.png?cb=5c8ef44cee95b93b6fc03fe23162ad99)

9. After you have selected your confirmation message subject line you can edit the confirmation message itself. Select "Edit message content" to edit your confirmation message.

You can designate the header, button text and signature of the message.

   ![Edit Message content.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_3e7440af8b72caa9cacf2246bf1316869a83dde525328e26093a8dbe23f7c336/Edit%20Message%20content.png?cb=607b54a4f4fc080df85100e3a03d00fe)

10. Once you are done editing your confirmation message, click the "Preview" button to accept your changes. Click "Create List" to finalize your list setup.

Congratulations! You've successfully created a new list in your account. You can start setting up messages and adding subscribers.

### Don't see the "Deactivate" icon to remove the list?

If you're on the AWeber Free plan or have only one list in your account, you will not be able to deactivate that list. All accounts must have at least one list.

# How do I manage users in my account?

With [The Users management page](https://www.aweber.com/users/team), you can provide access to your AWeber account to other team members. There are three roles that a team member can have with varying levels of account access.

In this article, we will go over how to add a new user to your account, how to change a user's role, and how to remove a user from the account.

Only an Owner or Admin will have access to these settings.
**User Seat Limits by Plan**

The number of users you can add to your account depends on your plan:

* **Free:** No additional users can be added. Only the account owner has access.

* **Lite:** Up to 3 total users, including the account owner.

* **Plus, Pro, and Legacy plans:** Unlimited users.

If you are on the Free or Lite plan and need to add more users, you can [upgrade your plan](https://www.aweber.com/users/upgrade?from=KB).

## Adding a User

1. Access [Users](https://www.aweber.com/users/team) from the bottom-left menu. Then, click "Invite a user".

## Transferring Account Owner

How to change or transfer your AWeber account ownership to another user:
[Adding additional users](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-do-i-manage-users-in-my-account.md#Adding-a-User) to transfer account ownership is not available on the AWeber Free plan. [Upgrade your account](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-do-i-upgrade-my-aweber-account-from-free-to-pl.md) to unlock this feature and many more.

1. Log in as the account owner and access the [Users page](https://www.aweber.com/users/team).

2. Locate the user you want to transfer ownership to, or [add a new user](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-do-i-manage-users-in-my-account.md#Adding-a-User) to transfer ownership to.

3. Click the 3 dots menu to the right of the user and select "transfer ownership" in the dropdown.

After transferring account ownership, the previous account owner will become an Admin on the account.
**Note:** you can only change ownership while logged into the account as the account owner. If the user you're trying to transfer ownership to matches the email address shown at the bottom left of your account, then you would need to [log out of the account](https://docs.aweber.com/getting-started-with-aweber/getting-started/how-to-log-out-of-your-aweber-account) and log back in using the owner email address to remove that user.
[Billing and payment information](https://www.aweber.com/users/contact/billing) is not automatically updated when ownership is transferred. Coordinate with the new account owner to review and update payment details after the transfer is complete.

Updating the account owner will not [update the from address](https://docs.aweber.com/getting-started-with-aweber/configure-your-sending-email-address/set-your-from-address.md) for any lists in the account. Update this information for each list as needed.

# How do I request a W-9 form?

Most AWeber customers will not need a W-9 from AWeber. It will not be used in filing your taxes, even if you are using AWeber for your company or corporation.

If, however, you do need a W-9 for your records, you can request one by contacting our [Customer Solutions team directly](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm).

Make sure to include your name and the login for your customer account along with your request.

# How do I request sales tax exemption for qualified organizations

If your state requires companies like AWeber to collect sales tax, you'll see tax on your billing estimates and invoices.

If you qualify for sales tax exemption, you can request to have AWeber remove sales tax from your account. Here's what you need to know.
**Disclaimer:** This article is for informational purposes only and does not constitute tax advice. Please consult with a tax professional or your state's department of revenue for guidance specific to your situation.

**Important:** Having 501(c) status from the IRS does not automatically exempt you from state sales tax. Each state has its own exemption requirements.

**Who May Qualify** Certain nonprofit, educational, religious, charitable, and government organizations may be exempt from sales tax in their state. AWeber determines your tax obligation based on your billing address.

**How to Request Exemption** Submit a sales tax exemption certificate for your state to our billing team. Documentation requirements vary by state. Please contact your state's department of revenue to determine what certificate your organization needs.

To submit your exemption request:

1. Submit a request that includes your state-issued sales tax exemption certificate through the [++AWeber Contact Form++](https://www.aweber.com/users/help), selecting "Billing Question" as the Inquiry Type.

![2025-11-21_10-19-07.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_f4686a053d5b83c1bd76c4d01ca79383483c52a2137dab972d64af3306abe1da/2025-11-21_10-19-07.png?cb=f97b38d43febddb0918daf5ccd2da4e9)

2. AWeber will review and follow up as needed.

Once approved, the exemption will be automatically applied to your account.

If you're unsure whether your organization qualifies or which documentation your state requires, contact your tax advisor or your state's department of revenue.

# How do I setup a buyers and prospects list?

When you are running your email marketing campaign, you may want to have separate lists - one for your prospective customers and one for your existing customers. Since each list in AWeber can have a Campaign, someone who is subscribed to a prospect list would receive different Campaign messages than someone subscribed to a customer list.

Additionally, you can create an automation rule that will automatically unsubscribe someone from your prospects list once they purchase from you and become a customer. If you've integrated your AWeber account with a shopping cart such as [PayPal](https://docs.aweber.com/integrations/integrations/how-do-i-integrate-paypal-with-aweber.md), you can set the app to add subscribers to a list after they've completed a purchase to you.

## Step By Step Instructions

1. First, select your Dashboard by clicking the AWeber logo, scroll down to the "Lists" area of the webpage, and click "Create New List." Alternatively you can click on your list in the upper left corner of your account and select "Create New List" from the expanded menu.

   ![Screen Shot 2022-07-08 at 5-38-57 PM.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_b45d3b8dcb36aff9660b07c2832401714fcfe8cdf75437b0ff140b6807c13816/Screen%20Shot%202022-07-08%20at%205-38-57%20PM.png?cb=7bce132b9f70f0236d08f9f7ce875abd)

   ![Step 2 Dashboard.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_7ab6e0ef7411ef174c1f3dbc09f961c74945cb1a558437da77e36e6306c70d1b/Step%202%20Dashboard.png?cb=12043290f65846b0a654031dd91ae4c8)

2. You will be directed to a page where you [set up your list](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-do-i-create-a-new-list.md). If you have a dedicated prospect list, it may be a good idea to name your list to reflect this. Continue through the list creation process to completion.

   ![Step 2 .png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_8186c74081cacf9c180ba283937a45e24d051dccd627c3f8156e21233e6d0b63/Step%202%20.png?cb=16a36e6a6c0961362de96529cbb10b9a)

3. Once your prospect list is created, you need to repeat this process and create your customer list. If you have a dedicated customer list, it may be a good idea to name your list to reflect this.

   ![Step 3 customer list.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_f7aa12fcd2a3066814b9d05a61a51356fe4667a404ba5b67263c50ad25d45bed/Step%203%20customer%20list.png?cb=dc220a46039330431479123503f45647)

4. Now that you have each list created, you can set your automation rule to automatically unsubscribe someone from your prospect list once they are added to your customer list. To accomplish this, you need be in your "Prospect" list (from the current list drop down menu in the upper left), and hover over the "List Options" tab to click "[List Automation](https://www.aweber.com/users/settings/automation)." Then, click "Add Automation" to get started.

   ![step04.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_a0e92b8f52d455978858bd5b92be71d9fcad2d61d36a7b9f41530f2782a2432f/step04.png?cb=6fe782f601d7a4971446eceb7ae85dcf)

In the window that pops over the page, create the rule for "Unsubscribe from list (name of your prospect list) when subscribing to (name of your customer list)."

   ![step05.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_bb827ada69e415f74dadbb517e0438063895e7054a933d1411ee31c4a1301b06/step05.png?cb=2f7fc1a3ffd6b489dd9ddd50ff0f76e8)

Click "Save" once the rule is added.

   ![step06.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_a7ab1f9db19467a314e527d431933e5363e5efdd826e09260742a92e3fbeb8fc/step06.png?cb=414fa33f5c36973dc81b5a0dd54d9ba3)

That's it! Now when your subscriber signs up for your prospect list they will receive only your prospect list messages. Using [PayPal](https://docs.aweber.com/integrations/integrations/how-do-i-integrate-paypal-with-aweber.md) as an example, once the subscriber purchases from you, they will be added to your customer list and be automatically unsubscribed from your prospect list. The subscriber would now only receive the campaign messages from the customer list.

# How do I toggle between lists?

While working in your AWeber account, each task is list specific. You can easily toggle between lists by using the "Active List" drop-down menu at the top of the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the control panel. Simply click on the list that you want to work in.

At any time, you can edit your list's company branding information including the company name, website URL, email signature, and logo. This article explains how to update your list's company branding information.

**Note**: Your company branding information will be list specific.

## Step By Step Instructions

1. First, locate the List Options menu and click [List Settings](https://www.aweber.com/users/settings/). From the left-hand side of the page, click Personalize Your List.

# How do I use global text snippets?

Global text snippets are bits of text (usually a few words or a short phrase) that you create in order to easily update multiple messages at once in your list, without forcing you to edit each message one at a time. You may not use them for everything, but there are times at which you may find them useful.

For example, let's say that you want to have a featured website in your messages, and you would like that to change every week. You could manually change each message one by one each week, or you could use global text snippets to do the heavy lifting for you.

**Note:** there is a 100 character limit on these snippets. If you need more text than that, you can add the text directly to your messages, or use multiple snippets together.

## Step By Step Instructions

1. Go to your "[List Settings](https://www.aweber.com/users/settings/)" and click "[Personalize Your List](https://www.aweber.com/users/list/settings/personalization)" from menu options available.

   ![Personalize_your_list.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_61524ef3aeea308340a8f29dc6e6c2f2af773230a7c5d6741955e5214c9e5cf7/Personalize_your_list.png?cb=d92f4d3e5ac0f7aa461b486f1663d5bd)

2. Scroll to the bottom of the page where the "Global Snippets" are located. Give the snippet a name and enter the text you'd like to start with and click the "Add" button. We're starting with domain here so that we can easily change the URL of our featured site, but remember that you can just as easily create a text snippet for anything you'd like such as webinar date, coupon code, event date, etc. These text snippets can be anything that you want to be able to change in many messages at once.

   ![Global_text_snippets.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_9df6b46287c28d586b9cf10d802b32ddf62676096bda01ab8b86e620a0921df0/Global_text_snippets.png?cb=159b9ed09bd10ff6ad2a2821439f806b)

3. Once you click the "Add" button, your snippet will be added to the list. The snippet box will show the name and text, as well as the variable that you can use when creating dynamic email messages.

   ![Global_Text_Snippet.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_e756229b269564fbb0ebdf8e001eeb2e90834282d7e09c59f0d02a43469b992e/Global_Text_Snippet.png?cb=47f0fc71d7d66255a1dc076cd9395372)

4. Hover over your "Snippet Variable" and click "Copy to Clipboard".

   ![Copy_to_clipboard.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_3d226034d0c04ebf3bc3a54e398045290bf4cdf3154345088f67dbf6b32052e7/Copy_to_clipboard.png?cb=665bb80b14d52b3b1b969d1ae3047299)
5. Go to your message and paste the snippet variable you've just copied. After you're finished adding your content and save your message, your global text snippet will appear where you've pasted the snippet variable.

   ![Paste_snippet_variable.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_d061464062a184f277641e476ef0bd2236255b224fed044b4f084621d5b4adf0/Paste_snippet_variable.png?cb=fee1d3198b0102252d8147b6fe3cc942)

## Using AWeber's HTML Editor?

1. First, add the snippet to your "[Personalize Your List](https://www.aweber.com/users/list/settings/personalization)" settings like in steps #1 and #2 above and copy your snippet variable like in step #4.

   ![Copy_to_clipboard.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_3d226034d0c04ebf3bc3a54e398045290bf4cdf3154345088f67dbf6b32052e7/Copy_to_clipboard.png?cb=665bb80b14d52b3b1b969d1ae3047299)

2. Go to your message and paste the snippet variable you've just copied. After you're finished adding your content and save your message, your global text snippet will appear where you've pasted the snippet variable.

   ![Paste_variable_for_html.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_74f6ca25573ce5e9f1fffd6be44bbbd462c6635ab9ec02c254d6212681e06963/Paste_variable_for_html.png?cb=ea87106935aeeb98b370b6561bfbdd90)

And that's it! The global text snippet will now appear in your message.

# How to comply with Google & Yahoo's new sending requirements

Gmail and Yahoo Mail announced they are putting new protections in place to keep inboxes safer and less spammy, which means email senders will need to adhere to specific requirements to get delivered to inboxes. **These new rules will be enforced by Gmail and Yahoo Mail starting February 2024 and apply to all senders everywhere, not just AWeber users.**
**Note:** AWeber verifies your domain's sender-authentication status each time a broadcast is sent. If your domain is no longer authenticated at send time, your broadcast will be returned to Draft status and you will receive a notification to re-authenticate before sending. Keeping your DKIM and DMARC records active ensures uninterrupted delivery.

*** ** * ** ***

### New rules apply to all senders.

These rules are NOT specific to AWeber. It applies to all senders regardless of the marketing platform you choose. Deciding to ignore the requirements will result in your mail ending up in the spam folder or being rejected starting in February 2024.

*** ** * ** ***

### Three Step Checklist

#### Step 1: Send mail from a professional email address with a custom domain

**Rule:**Your email address must be a custom domain.

**Example** : Send from dave@millerlandscaping.com instead of [millerlandscaping@gmail.com](mailto:millerlandscaping@gmail.com).

**Learn more:**

* [How to buy a custom domain, set up a professional email address, and connect it to AWeber](https://docs.aweber.com/getting-started-with-aweber/getting-started/how-to-buy-a-custom-domain-set-up-a-professional-e.md)

* [Why businesses need a professional email address](https://blog.aweber.com/learn/why-businesses-need-a-professional-email-address.htm)

If you're sending from an @gmail or @yahoo address, or similar, it's time to level up. These email addresses are for sending emails back and forth to friends and family---not for sending your newsletter or promotional email to thousands of subscribers. So, it's time to use your own professional email address with a custom domain.

#### Step 2. Authenticate your domain with custom DKIM

**Rule:**You must connect your email address's domain to AWeber for custom DKIM signing

**Show me how:**

**Important:** If you don't own your email sending domain, you'll [need to buy one and set up an email address before continuing](https://docs.aweber.com/getting-started-with-aweber/getting-started/how-to-buy-a-custom-domain-set-up-a-professional-e.md).

Once you have your professional email address with a custom domain, configure custom for that domain. DKIM is like a digital signature for emails, a way for the sender (you) to prove they really sent the email and that it hasn't been changed by anyone in between.

#### Step 3. Set up a DMARC Policy

**Rule:** You need to publish a DMARC policy for your custom domain in the form of a DNS record. It needs to have a policy of None, Quarantine, or Reject. If you're just publishing one for the first time, do not configure Quarantine or Reject.

**Show me how:** [How to set up DMARC to comply with Gmail and Yahoo Mail sender requirements](https://docs.aweber.com/email-marketing-best-practices/antispam/how-to-set-up-dmarc-to-comply-with-gmail-and-yahoo.md)

**Learn more:** [What is DMARC authentication?](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/what-is-dmarc-authentication.md)

DMARC helps make sure that the emails you send are really from you. If someone tries to fake your email address, DMARC helps block those phony messages from reaching others, keeping your email reputation safe and sound.

*** ** * ** ***

### Other important factors to keep in mind

#### Keep spam complaints low

Aim to limit Spam complaints to 0.1%. The best way to achieve this goal is to make sure you're sending to subscribers who actually asked for your mail, and to make sure your messaging is what they're expecting to receive from you.

* [Where do I find out how many complaints I've received?](https://docs.aweber.com/email-marketing-best-practices/antispam/where-do-i-find-out-how-many-complaints-i-ve-recei.md)

* [What is an acceptable complaint rate?](https://docs.aweber.com/email-marketing-best-practices/antispam/what-is-an-acceptable-complaint-rate.md)

#### Make it easy for people to unsubscribe (done for you)

AWeber already inserts the necessary unsubscribe headers for all of your email messages. This enables links located next to the sender name of an email allowing email recipients to easily unsubscribe without having to dig through an email or resorting to hitting the "Mark as Spam" button.

AWeber also includes a link in your message body making it easy for your subscribers to update their preferences or to unsubscribe altogether.

**Key** **concept**: It's better to have someone unsubscribe from your mail than to mark you as a spammer.

* [What is the unsubscribe link that AWeber appends to my messages?](https://docs.aweber.com/message-editors/messages/what-is-the-unsubscribe-link-that-aweber-appends-t.md)

# I just set up DKIM and DMARC on my domain, how should I warm up sending?

With the [changes made by Google and Yahoo to require DKIM and DMARC authentication](https://docs.aweber.com/account-management/account-management/how-to-comply-with-google-yahoo-s-new-sending-requ.md) for bulk senders, many small businesses have taken their first steps at setting up authentication to get the best possible deliverability for their email. However, if this is the first time sending with this domain using authentication, or this is a brand new domain that has never sent email before, you will need to gradually bring sending up to speed or else your domain's lack of sender reputation could see consequences from mail filtering at your subscribers' inboxes.

## A note about sender reputation

The spam filter algorithms used by ISPs and mailbox providers to block unwanted email use a variety of factors to determine sender reputation and inbox placement such as:

* Engagement rates (opens, clicks, bounces, and spam complaints)

* Sending frequency and overall mail volume

* Domains used to send your email and domains in the links in your messages

* Email authentication that has been properly configured

The authenticated email address domain that appears on your messages is a heavily-weighted signal used to drive these filtering decisions because it points directly to the identity of the sender. Factors in your control can improve or degrade your domain's reputation which will affect filtering decisions. We will go over a few possible scenarios below:

### Brand new domain

New domains that have never sent email before are seen as potentially suspicious by spam filters. It has been noted by some spam blocklisting services such as [Spamhaus](https://www.spamhaus.com/resource-center/best-practice-for-owners-of-a-newly-registered-domain-part-3/) that filters will treat domains that are only 24-48 hours old as inherently untrustworthy. Everything involved with successfully sending email comes down to establishing trustworthiness with both your subscribers and the services receiving your messages. In addition to domain age, making sure your messages feature as many identifying hallmarks of your business as possible (such as your logo and links to your website with the same domain) will also help establish trust.

### Existing domain, hasn't sent before

If your domain has only been used for your website up to this point and you're just starting to send email with that domain instead of a free email address (such as Gmail), your domain will have no reputation because of the lack of sending history. As you increase your sending volume, ISPs and mailbox providers will become more familiar with your email and how your subscribers interact with it, so it is important that you make a good first impression and gradually build up sending volume as you see good results.

### Existing domain, has been used to send previously

If you have been sending email with your domain address already, but after setting up DKIM and DMARC authentication you saw your open rates drop, it could indicate that there were underlying issues with your sender reputation that have only come to the forefront because of the authentication. Now would be a good time to take a close look at your list and make adjustments to your [sending practices](https://docs.aweber.com/email-marketing-best-practices.md) to repair your reputation. [Removing unengaged subscribers](https://docs.aweber.com/subscriber-management/subscribers/how-can-i-remove-inactive-subscribers-from-my-list.md) and making sure the subscribers in your list [are actually appropriate to email](https://docs.aweber.com/subscriber-management/subscribers/can-i-use-this-list.md) would be the first things to consider. If you have been sending daily or multiple times per day, easing off into a more relaxed sending schedule will be beneficial. If you have been emailing with this domain address on other services, also review your practices there to see if there are any issues.

## The warm up process

In any of these scenarios, the warm up process has several best practices to follow:

* **Sending to a small sample of your subscribers who have opened and/or clicked your messages most recently is the best place to start.** Typically, we recommend your first message from AWeber targets 5-10% of your list but no more than 10,000 subscribers. If you have seen lower than expected open rates or your domain is new, we recommend engaging with smaller segments, such as 5,000 subscribers or fewer, to gradually build up a good sender reputation. The smaller the size, the more likely your mail will be accepted. Specifically, focusing on sending to people who have interacted with your email in the last 7 to 30 days will be the best way to establish trust with mailbox providers and their filters, since those subscribers are most likely to continue opening your messages during the warm up. This continued interaction will create good signals for reputation with these services.

* **Once you see successful delivery and interaction with your most engaged subscribers, you can begin to increase the sending volume.** For a message sent to highly engaged subscribers, you should expect to see an open rate of 20-25% or higher. Once that level of engagement is seen, you can begin targeting openers from a longer time frame for your next round. Making sure the warm up is gradual and not too sudden is the best approach. If your initial message performs well, doubling your mail volume on the next round is typically what we recommend, but going smaller and slower can benefit warm up.

* **The timeline for a warm up is unique for every list.** If it's a smaller list, two weeks may be enough. If the list is larger, this could take a month or potentially more. Everything is dependent on how well your email is being received by your subscribers and their mailbox providers. While it can be tempting to rush this process, performing a slower warm-up will provide better results long term.

Below are a few example warm up schedules based upon list size, assuming good performance between each send:
![Warm up schedule table 1.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_03d202701984f07810e87a2d82f70aa2d20cf64467d63a41c8d3ccba4170ce0c/Warm%20up%20schedule%20table%201.png?cb=a1a10ca0ef2324b5a81be623a8536e39)
![Warm up schedule table 2.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_909555eba956b41ecfa743186e9e5c0e3d426f26583fc807bd67658ce94cffb8/Warm%20up%20schedule%20table%202.png?cb=a0de16a2fa272ce99d1e56543e6cd51a)

These example schedules assume you will be emailing new content to all of your currently added subscribers in every round of messaging. If you do not have new content to send everybody in each round, you can reuse your message content and target only the newly added subscribers for each round. You will want to make sure your content is fresh and engaging for your recipients so repetitive messaging will not hamper your warm up progress.

### Why third-party email warmup services don't work with AWeber

Some email warmup services (such as Warmup Inbox, Lemwarm, or similar tools) require SMTP and IMAP credentials to send emails on your behalf. These services cannot be used with AWeber for the following reasons:

* AWeber is not an SMTP relay service -- AWeber handles all email sending through our own servers

* AWeber does not provide SMTP or IMAP credentials -- All emails are sent directly from AWeber's infrastructure

* Replies go to your email address -- AWeber doesn't receive incoming emails to warm up engagement

Third-party warmup tools are designed for businesses that manage their own SMTP servers. Since AWeber manages the sending infrastructure for you, these external services are incompatible with our platform.

Instead, follow AWeber's recommended warmup process outlined below, which is specifically designed for our platform and will achieve the same goal of building your domain reputation.

## What if issues come back during warm up?

If you see issues with engagement rates develop again as you get further into the warm up, pull back and examine what might be different with these newer audiences you are messaging. Are these still recently engaged subscribers who you are emailing? What expectations were set about how frequently you would email these subscribers? Is the material sent something they would be interested in opening?

One strategy that can help here is sending most of your messages to the segment of people who have opened your messages during the warm up, while less frequently emailing the list at large. Say, daily or every-other-day messages for your recent openers, but sending once weekly to everyone. Scaling back the rate of increase in mail volume will help this process.

Additionally, as you add more subscribers to your AWeber list who haven't opened messages as recently, they may produce worse results simply due to lost interest, so you may need to make the decision to omit subscribers who have been less engaged with your emails historically. Generally, if someone hasn't opened a message in the last 6 months, it is unlikely they will open future messages. While it may be painful to let go of these older subscribers, in the long run it will be beneficial to your newer and more interested subscribers. After all, if someone can't see your email in their inbox, they can't open it, and they can't bring more business to your company.

If you have any questions about the warm up process, please feel free to contact our Customer Solutions team and we will be happy to help!

# If I Downgrade, What are the Limitations of the AWeber Free Plan?

While on the AWeber Free plan, you will lose access to certain features available in paid plans. These limitations include the ability to save custom segments, advanced reporting, split testing for emails and sign up forms, behavioral automation for broadcasts, and more than one campaign or landing page.

You also lose the ability to turn off confirmation messages for new subscribers and remove AWeber branding from messages and landing pages. Your email list and landing page will be retained; however, you should expect functionality limitations compared to paid plans.

## If I downgraded and need to re-upgrade to a paid plan to benefit from all of the powerful features, how can I do so?

While on AWeber Free, at any time you wish to re-upgrade to the Plus plan, you can do so at any time [directly in your control panel](https://www.aweber.com/users/upgrade/plan?from=KB).

If you have have any issues upgrading, please contact with our [Customer Solutions team](https://www.aweber.com/contact-us.htm) for additional assistance.

# Using BIMI with your email messages

## What is BIMI?

BIMI, or Brand Indicators for Message Identification, is an email specification that helps email senders display their brand logos next to their emails in the recipient's inbox. It works alongside DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) and DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting \& Conformance) to improve email authentication and reduce phishing. When set up, a verified logo appears in supported email clients, helping to increase brand recognition and trust. BIMI is for organizations and marketers that want to enhance their email communication with their branding. Further, its great for email recipients, providing a visual cue that helps them identify legitimate emails from trusted sources, reducing the risk of phishing.

## Where does this logo appear?

Your BIMI logo for branding appears as a circular profile image next to your email in your recipients' Gmail, Yahoo, and other supported inboxes.

## Is this something that I setup in AWeber?

No. Your BIMI logo is not uploaded to AWeber. You host it on your own domain's web server and reference it in your DNS records.

## BIMI and AWeber

BIMI works with fully authenticated email domains. AWeber already recommends setting up and [DMARC](https://docs.aweber.com/email-marketing-best-practices/antispam/how-to-set-up-dmarc-to-comply-with-gmail-and-yahoo.md) to get the best out of your email marketing efforts and bolster your deliverability. With these done you will then publish a BIMI record in your DNS settings with a link to your verified brand mark/logo. Your BMI record will be added to your domain's DNS as a TXT record that contains the URL to your brand logo in scalable vector graphics (SVG) format and the URL of a verified mark certificate (VMC). The BIMI Group's [implementation guide](https://bimigroup.org/implementation-guide/) has a quick breakdown of the steps needed to setup BIMI.

**Note:** Some email providers such as [Yahoo](https://senders.yahooinc.com/bimi/) do not require a VMC as a part of your BIMI record, and will only display your BIMI logo on bulk emailing sent to a sufficiently engaged audience.

## How to Enable BIMI

### 1. Setting DMARC policy

When setting up BIMI, you will need to log into your website's DNS and [set your DMARC](https://docs.aweber.com/email-marketing-best-practices/antispam/how-to-set-up-dmarc-to-comply-with-gmail-and-yahoo.md) policy (p) value to be either p=reject or p=quarantine. If there is an existing DMARC record for your domain you would update the existing record. Do not add a second DMARC record. Only one can be used per domain.

### 2. Creating your logo Image

The logo you will use for BIMI will need to be in .svg format and meet the following requirements:

* The image size must be a minimum height and width of 96 pixels.

* The image size must be specified in absolute pixels. Example: width="96" height="96"

* The logo image should be centered in a square.

* The logo image should appear on a solid color background.

* The SVG file size should be 32 KB or smaller.

* The SVG file should include the \<desc\> element (description) for accessibility.

Additionally, some inboxes will display rounded or circular profile photos.
![Screenshot 2024-11-07 at 3-16-06 PM.png](https://docs.aweber.com/__attachments/a_745114dedd76295f24ab5248ec0f56c3a40ace02658ca0ddb151a5831421f17b/Screenshot%202024-11-07%20at%203-16-06%E2%80%AFPM.png?cb=05c5bdc17e23a7322bb4c6a61b411553)

You'll want to have some extra space surrounding your image so that nothing vital is cropped out by some of these presentations. Once created upload the SVG file to your domain's public web server. The web server must be in the same domain as the domain used for your domain based email address.

### 3. Applying for a Mark Certificate

To enable BIMI for your domain, some email providers like [Gmail](https://support.google.com/a/answer/10911320?hl=en#bimi-prereqs) require third-party certification of your domain and logo. This certification comes in the form of a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) or Common Mark Certificate (CMC) from trusted providers like [Digicert](https://www.digicert.com/news/digicert-announces-availability-of-verified-mark-certificates-companies-can-add-logo-in-email-to-improve-brand-recognition-engagement) or [Entrust](https://www.entrust.com/company/newsroom/entrust-announces-general-availability-of-verified-mark-certificates-to-improve-email-authentication). The process involves obtaining the certificate from one of these providers and hosting the .pem file on your domain's public web server.

### 4. Update DNS settings with a new TXT record for the logo and certificate

Lastly, you need to update your domain's DNS with a TXT record that includes the URLs for both your logo's SVG file and your certificate's PEM file to activate BIMI. Below are example records, be sure to use your own domain name and links for your logo and certificate files:

`Type: TXT`

`Name: default._bimi.example.com`

`Value: v=BIMI1;l=https://images.example.com/brand/bimi-logo.svg;`

`a=https://images.example.com/brand/certificate.pem`

By using DKIM and DMARC records to authenticate your domain, and implementing a BIMI record to display your branding logo, you'll ensure the highest level of email security and enhance brand recognition. This approach not only protects your domain from phishing and spoofing but also boosts your credibility with recipients, making your emails stand out visually and reinforcing your brand identity in email marketing. Implementing BIMI with a VMC will additionally apply[Gmail's blue verified checkmark](https://powerdmarc.com/gmail-blue-verified-checkmark/) to messages received by personal Gmail accounts, Google Workspace customers as well those on legacy G Suite basic and business plans.
